Animal World (2018)

Image
Animal World is a Chinese thriller movie that came out in 2018. How would you like to desperately get out of crippling debt by playing a simple game of rock, paper, scissors? Well be careful for what you wish for because you just might get it. Or die trying. Never thought I'd see a movie centered around a childhood game (Squid Game who?? Don't know her).  Animal World is a about a man named Zheng Kaisi who enters a tournament as his hail mary to get out of debt that his scummy friend tricked him into. My man was kind of put in a bind and owed a shit ton of money that he couldn't possibly pay off in his own lifetime until he gets approached by a man. We got an American looking boss (played by Michael Douglas) that recruits him in a tournament over international waters.  Once he gets on this big ass ship, he sees a huge crowd of people of all nationalities. Everyone is equipped with an ear piece that acts as a babel translator. They just tu

The Body (2018)

Image
The Body is an American horror movie length feature that is actually an episode for the anthology horror series, Into the Dark, that came out in 2018.  Interesting concept isn't it? For reasons, I'm just going to refer to this as an episode rather than movie. I'll elaborate towards the end of my post. The scene is set after a hitman just killed his latest victim in his hotel room. He's on the phone with his boss informing him the deed is done but boss man says to deliver the body to adequately fulfill his duties. Oh, and reminded him that he's totally professional hitman dude so what problems could it possibly pose? He has 4 hours to accomplish this. Well hey! Hey! It's Halloween fuckers so it's totally innocuous him dragging around this dead body wrapped in plastic because everyone around him are all like "Nice costume yo!" And he takes advantage of this. He comes across these college party kids on their way to a Halloween

In the Tall Grass (2019)

Image
In the Tall Grass is a Canadian supernatural horror film that came out in 2019. Based on a NOVELLA by Stephen King and his son Joe Hill (I don't blame him for his pen name. Can you imagine all of the puns this dude has heard though out his life? "Are you serious or are you Joe King?") 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Reminder that this is a spoiler free review so with that being said let's get into it! In the Tall Grass is about a brother and a pregnant sister on a road trip to San Diego but take a little detour on the side of the road and think it's a good idea to go into this random ass grass field because a kid is calling for help. Seriously though? This gives me "Somebody call IXII!!" vibes from Disney's Hercules.  T hey go into the tall grass but they themselves get lost but eventually see something's a little fucky around here. Their position in the grass changes when they think they are close but in a split second are further a

Pihu (2017)

Image
Pihu is an Indian thriller/drama movie that came out in 2017. So this movie opens up with a depiction of young Pihu's 2nd birthday party that was thrown just the day before. Everyone is all happy singing happy birthday to her. There's no music just people being people at a birthday party. It is rather somber. Ever watched a scene just be so happy that it's eerie?  The next morning, little Pihu wakes up but can't find any of her parents. Since it's already in the movie poster I'm just going to cut to the chase: Pihu's mom killed herself. Her act of suicide was not shown but it is blatantly revealed that she has self harm scars on her left wrist and her hand clenching a bottle of pills in the other. She also has bruises on her face indicating she is a victim of domestic violence. Pihu can't comprehend her mother's state so she continues to interpret this as a late slumber being that her mother is still in bed. She is

Incantation (2022)

Image
Incantation is a Taiwanese found footage horror film that came out in 2022. This movie seriously blew my mind and I don't say that lightly. No major spoilers rest assured so with that being said here we go... Incantation introduces us to Li Ronan talking to us about this curse because she broke a religious taboo. She desperately wants to relieve this curse. Next scene cuts to Ronan regaining custody of her six year old daughter, Dodo. Dodo is as adorable and bubbly as you can imagine! Thrilled to have her back, she decides to make video diaries and basically record their daily ins and outs just for the sake of sentimental posterity. Unfortunately, not too long after her daughter settles in, creepy shit starts happening and it's disturbingly progressing. We are then seen in a flashback of Ronan, her boyfriend and cousin filming for their Youtube-equivalent channel. They went to a remote village to document a ritual that worships the deity Mother-B

Last Night in Soho (2021)

Image
Last Night in Soho is a British psychological horror that came out in 2021. Ellie is a soft spoken young woman who gets accepted into a London college to study in fashion as she seems drawn to 60's fashion in particular. She meets her roommate who she quickly deems as a snobby mean girl so she seems to have a hard time fitting in, save for John who is shown to be the only peer that treats her with compassion. She decides to probably seek a better living situation to get away from the toxic roommate. On her first night in her new room, she has a breathtaking dream of a beautiful woman named Sandy who steps into a bustling night club life and gets swept off her feet by a man named Jack (played by Matt Smith).  Inspired by her dream, she goes to a salon and dyes her hair blond but despite this new look, Ellie seems to struggle more and more. Already reeling from the loss of her mother who killed herself and having mean girls snickering behind her back in class

The 8th Night (2021)

Image
The 8th Night is a South Korean horror/thriller movie that came out in 2021 on Netflix. The movie starts off with the legend of this monster that crossed a bridge from hell to the human realm to create human suffering 2,500 years ago so Buddha ripped out the Red eye and the Black eye and placed them in sarira casket in two separate corners of the world with his disciples instructing them to never allow the eyes to reunite. Wouldn't it nice if it ended there? Well, professor Kim Joon-Cheol has his heart set on discovering the existence of the sarira caskets. Unfortunately, the media went out of their way to discredit him which made him shunned from the community. Full of resentment, he is determined to prove them all wrong. He bleeds his own blood in the Red casket and the Red Eye gets reawakened. The story goes, the Red Eye must go through the Seven Pillars (aka human vessels) before it can be successfully reunited. One of the protectors of the Black Eye casket, Bhante

Paper Girls (2022) S1E1

Image
Based on a comic book series in 2015, Amazon seemed very quick to produce this as a live action series. I watched only one episode and I now see why. This is pretty fresh. Got released on Amazon Prime literally 2 weeks ago. For the love of jeebus, don't compare this to Stranger Things.  UPDATE!!!! Future posts are now being moved to   Horrortized TV   so stop on by!  Fun Fact: Brad Pitt is credited as an executive producer for this show! He apparently co-founded the production company with his ex wife Jennifer Aniston. (Before they divorced) Welcome to my season 1 review of Paper Girls, I will discuss plot points in each episode so if you don't want spoilers then I highly recommend you watch it on Amazon Prime Video. This is for episode 1 so buckle up. Paper Girls starts off in 1988 with Erin. This is her first day of her job to deliver papers in a residential neighborhood. There's implications that she lives a very sheltered life and is a shy and so
