The Fades (2012)

Image
The Fades is a British supernatural drama TV series that came out in 2012. (Please read my update at the end of this post) One unsung hero that I don't see mentioned enough is absolutely this show! Yeah, I'm hella biased here because I rarely see it get mentioned nearly enough which is wack since it won a BAFTA award for best drama series of 2012. Basically an British equivalent to the Emmy's.  The Fades is about a young teenager named Paul who is tortured by visions of the apocalypse in pretty graphic imagery. It's tough enough as he is kind of a misfit as it is ya know? He also has a twin sister who is the bane of her existence. Paul then meets a man named Neil who becomes his foul mouthed mentor after he finds out Paul possesses an ability that can perceive deceased spirits stuck on earth. These spirits are known as the Fades and their ascension points to cross over have mysteriously closed so they have become embittere

Mirror Mirror (1990)

Image
Mirror Mirror is an American supernatural horror movie that came out in 1990. This movie is about a mother and her teenaged daughter moving into a new house in LA. However, the new house is accompanied by a haunting mirror that the daughter, Megan, is immediately drawn to. This cursed mirror apparently has connected well to her so much that it inflicts pain and destruction to whoever pisses Megan off.  Which doesn't take much, apparently. Megan starts her new high school on the wrong foot which the stereotypical popular crowd are assholes to her and instantly bully the shit out of her for no reason. Luckily, she finds a friend in Nikki. Sweet girl but is also the rival to the popular girl which fuels further animosity. Simple horror movie, really. It has some bloody deaths. Standard old school music soundtrack to reminisce this precious throwback in time and fashion. Pretty predictable with the classic bullied gets revenge kind of film. Even thou

Alison's Birthday (1981)

Image
Alison's Birthday is an Australian horror film that came out in 1981. Ever played with a Ouija board? Well Alison's friends talked her into playing with one during a sleepover. One of friends ends up getting possessed by a spirit claiming to be Alison's father with an ominous warning that bad things will happen if she returns home on her 19th birthday. And like, DO NOT GO HOME. So what does she do? Literally the exact opposite. So off she goes but brings along her boyfriend, Pete. They both are like cautiously optimistic and all seems to be smooth sailing at first upon meeting her aunt and uncle. However, it's only a matter of time before strange happenings has them both questioning what disturbing agenda that creepy ass family is up to. Overall, I like this movie for the most part. I mean, after calibrating my expectations since this is such an old movie. I seriously have not heard of this movie before! Insane, I know! Th

Seoul Station (2016)

Image
Seoul Station is a South Korean zombie flick that came out in 2016. It is a Prequel to Train to Busan (nope, haven't seen it yet but definitely will because of this.) Imagine a homeless man walking through the streets. I'm sure we all have at least a few times in our lives. This man is unfortunately a little sicky. Like, everywhere. Because he turned into a fucking ZOMBIE. I guess you don't have to imagine because that's the intro. We are then shown Hye-sun, she is a former prostitute who ran away from a brothel into the loving arms of Ki-woong. By that I mean he's kinda an asshole. She found out he put her sex ad online and they split because of it. The so called man that was to meet with Hye-sun is dun dun DUN her dad that was actually trying to look for her this whole time!! But holy shit the zombie outbreak has taken over!  So basically the whole movie is her trying to survive and reunite with Ki-woong and her father who begrudgingly have to

Kadaver (2020)

Image
Kadaver is a Norwegian horror movie that came out in 2020.  Cadaver seems to be the US spelling but I am just going to refer to this movie in its original spelling since it's only a letter different (also there's other movies with the same name).  In the aftermath of a nuclear struck city lives a family struggling in practically every sense of the way. Buildings? Dilapidated. Food? Yeeted. Leonara, our main character, walks in on a suicide victim. Even while walking down the shattering streets there's literally dead bodies she has to walk over. Without a source for food, how the hell can she feed her family? Leonara catches a salesman offering tickets to a dinner and a show. She pays presumably the last of her money to buy tickets for her family to attend.  It's a beautiful mansion with a fuck ton of food which dozens of families stuff their fat faces when all of a sudden the host takes stage and presents a series of plays for the enjoyment of t

Hatching (2022)

Image
Hatching is a Finnish body horror film that came out in 2022. I made the mistake of enjoying Videodrome the other day now I can stop thinking about finding other body horror movies for me to watch. Send halp. Hatching features an upperclass family.  The mother apparently is an influencer and makes family vlogs she takes great pride in.   This movie is not about the mother, it's seen through the eyes of young teenaged Tinja. It's implied that she was pushed into gymnastics by her overzealous mother as she seems to show more of a passion to making her mother happy rather than actually loving gymnastics. The mother seems to favor her over the younger son, which is quite sad as you can tell how much he acts out as a result of it. While filming one of their family vlogs, a crow wanted to CRASH the filming scene. It was rather symbolic and sets the tone for the rest of the movie. The mother snaps its neck and tells her to dispose of it. Shaken, she obeys her

A Thief in the Night (1972)

Image
A Thief in the Night is an American thriller movie that came out in 1972. This is the movie that scared the actual shit out of me as a child but here's the real kicker: it's a christian movie. As an adult, I no longer consider myself a christian but as an 8 year old I was scared to call myself anything other than that. A bit confusing for a so called christian to like movies like Hellraiser and Nightmare on Elm Street huh? I'll elaborate further down but in the meantime, let's revisit this fuckery. ❗❗SPOILERS❗❗ SPOILERS ❗❗ SPOILERS ❗❗ This is more of a recap rather than review. If you want a review well here's a review: It's a disturbing movie to brainwash people into converting to christianity. Wack. A Thief in the Night starts off with a woman named Patty who has awakened to a blaring radio exclaiming that the rapture has occurred. She goes to try to find her husband but he's disappeared with his razor thingy still buzzing much to h

Videodrome (1983)

Image
Videodrome is a Canadian science fiction body horror movie that got released in 1983. So there is this man named Max who runs a television station that broadcasts what some deem exploitative content such as porn and violence. He accepts going on a talk show with a woman played by BLONDIE! Debbie Harry plays Nicki Brand, the love interest to the main character who is the host of an emotional distress rescue radio show. She is initially on the talk show to counter Max's depravity but instead of changing his ethics, she changed his libido. They become lovers which Max quickly finds out how sadomasochistic of a woman she is. Max comes across a sketchy satellite signal via piracy that shows women being tortured and murdered. He's fascinated how real it looks and broadcasts it. Nicki comes across the VHS at his house and becomes intrigued enough to audition for this fictitious show. Except that Max is starting to believe that the so called "show" tha
