Demonia (1990)

Demonia is an Italian horror movie that came out in 1990.

How I watched: Shudder

It's also on Tubi but I didn't want ads

I've noticed it's a lot more difficult to find 80s or 90s movies on Netflix nowadays. Most of the stuff is usually 2010-2022 which I kinda get. Out with the old in with the new? It's still possible though, as mentioned above the same applies here: look a little harder for it. There's also free alternatives like Youtube (duh) and Kino Cult which is a free vintage horror streaming service. There's 24/7 livestreams and of course on demand library full of cool gems. Check that out if you'd like. It launched late last year. (And no, not sponsored lol I literally discovered it last week)

I digress, on with the movie...

Demonia is about this one young archaeologist named Liza who attended a seance and has weird visions of nuns being crucified and burned to death which led to her fainting. Professor Evans, her former teach, softly reprimands her asking WTF she's doing with these seances and shit. Liza's all like "I do it for the LOLs." but whatever, right?

Anyway, so these Canadian ass people set off to their archaeological dig near these ancient Greek ruins in Sicily. They meet these locals who basically tell them to step off as they really don't take too kindly to foreigners. However, but not without an ominous warning to avoid stepping anywhere near the beautiful monastery. It's nun of their business!

Does Liza listen? Of course not.

Her morbid curiosity naturally gets the best of her and she totally vandalizes a wall in said monastery and unearths the corpses of the nuns still on the crosses. This immediately leads to nuns going on a murder spree from beyond the grave.

A lot of these are pretty bloody!

Liza comes in contact with one lady that tells her the history of these kinky nuns. They had wild orgies with men and killed them when they climaxed and consumed their blood part of some kind of satanic thing. So yeah. They were freaks.

This movie is kind of a mixed bag for me. I liked the premise of it but it just felt too goofy for me to take seriously after a while. And not in the intentionally goofy kind of way like Body Melt. I definitely preferred the first half of the movie. Even then, I thought it was sort of a slowish burner for me in terms of action and scary foreshadowing. Just a lot of people blabbering and stuff. Not a terrible movie by any means I was just expecting a but more of an oomph to it or something. I could almost say that this movie is ideal for someone that wants to ease in this genre but not exactly sure if I can say that. Once it gets to the deaths, it gets DEATHILY GRAPHIC. I guess this is good to at least have something in the background of a Halloween party of something idk.

If this movie had a message, what would it be? If someone tells you not to disturb shit then literally don't disturb shit.

Disclaimer? You see a nun nipple or two. Depending on your tolerance, wacky bloody deaths but not like there's a lot in there anyway so I wouldn't be concerned with much at all.

Age demographics? I think I'll stop using this segment because it really seems useless at this point. (Yes, I'll experiment here and there to see what segments stick here and there so keep that in mind if you do notice inconsistency)

With that being said what is my verdict on this movie?

Not the worst but not the best either
