Qorin (2022)

Qorin is an Indonesian horror movie that came out in 2022 in the language of Indonesian.

How I watched: Netflix

For the short of it: This movie is about a boarding school where the students are tricked into summoning their evil dopplegangers.

The long of it? Well...

So as mentioned above, there is this boarding school for teenaged girls that seems pretty normal and totally nothing nefarious but Zahra is then introduced to this new girl, Yolanda. As she's showing Yolanda around, it's apparent she's more urban oriented from her red highlights and asking about the Wi-Fi which could hint why her mother sent her there to begin with. She meets Zahra's other friends, Gendhis and Icha whom are just normal and friendly girls, so like, you know, whatever!

Umma and Jaelani are the prefect, which I guess means the teachers/superiors of the school. It is noted that every time they are to come in the same room as a prefect it is always started and ended with the phrase "Peace be upon you."

The same night, there was an uproar of girl after girl starts convulsing in which the male prefect, Jaelani ,calms them down by citing an unknown verse in a language nobody can understand. The four girls are now walking in the night time and Yolanda says it looks liike BS to her in which she is met with scowls from the rest of the girls. Basically telling her "Keep that to ya damn self!" They are pretty much Allah based.

The next day in class they are informed that they must perform a Qorin hey, that's the name of the movie! but Yolanda just asks Why and Jaelani snaps that if if she has to ask, she is not ready. Gimme dat blind allegiance!

She does.

Such a creepy vibe to this movie! For a multitude of reasons. First, we got Jaelani who is not some old ass dude but in fact not many years older than the girls. He looks more like an older brother than the head of the boarding school. It is later learned that he has been sexually abusing some of these girls too but I am sure you weren't surprised at that reveal.

The movie itself is seriously not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'll admit that it does take a while for the movie to pick up progression but you can easily put the pieces together.

Just the ending was way too abrupt. I mean, I feel totally weird saying that because this is nearly a 2 hour movie here. Not dropping the ending here but after the climax the credits roll like a split second after the climax. Hella weird. What is this? Some kind of suicide squad? I have noticed that many foreign films with a slightly longer screen time compared to the American horror movies I'm used to. Some are barely an hour long and here I am watching movies practically twice as long. Wack, I say!

However, not bad of a movie. High production values and top notch acting from the ladies, great cinematography brooding soundtrack.

So with that being said, what is my verdict?

Uber creeps
