Old People (2022)

Old People is a German horror movie that came out in 2022 in the language of German.

How I watched: Netflix

For the short of it: This movie is about old people with murdah on the brain.

The long of it? Heh.

So this mother and kids plan to make a quick stop in town for their Aunt Sanna's wedding. It's on this house in the middle of nowhere. That's not the creepy part, shaddup. The REAL weird thing about this movie is that the kids notice how there's like nothing but old ass people around here. Just from driving around town, they look so...catatonic but they're still walking talking people. Maybe not so much talking but at least they're walking.

Mother, her son Noah, and Sanna drive over to pick up gramps from the home and this kid gets the heebie jeebies just looking at all these old people in these weird mannerisms.. But since this town is full of them, I guess everyone is just desensitized  or just chuck it up to old people problems or whateva.

Sanna has her wedding and it's beautiful and shit. The groom is kind of a hunk, not gonna lie. 

Once the festivities comes to a close everyone leaves meanwhile the old folks home get somehow triggered and turn on the staff and slaughtered them all and are now on the lose. Like moths to a flame, they head on over to where they heard the music from the wedding.

All goes to hell from there.

Now everyone has to battle their own kind as if they are the plague. And it really sucks because they have to battle against their own loved one, gramps over here so it causes a huge dilemma. There is a side plot as the parents of the kids are divorced and it was touched upon a bit. It gives the rest of the movie more layers to their interactions while begrudgingly working together despite their differing perspectives. 

I mean. That's basically it. It's literally about the elderly teaming up and brutally murdering everyone. How the heck can people of such old age overpower and threaten grown ass adults? That in itself seems like such a laughable premise for the movie but to its credit, this movie does an impressive job making it look like a real horror movie.

If you paid attention in the beginning of the movie, there was this opening scene that it is believed that vengeful spirits harbored inside old people. So I guess it is implying that the elderly are merely vessels being possessed by these evil entities. Would've liked some more background on that but ok. 

I didn't mind this movie for the most part. For a big budget film, they really didn't need much to show how creepy they can be. I doubt these cats were even acting.

Okay, so I finally finished the ending and yeah there is definitely a more concrete answer to why the old people are attacking. Added some more depth to this movie so now it doesn't seem as goofy of a premise like I originally thought. Huh. Having said that, this movie has some pretty bad ratings for this movie. 5.1/10 on IMDB and 2.4 out 5 on Letterboxd. Yikes bro. I've seen some terrible and corny movies rated higher than this.

So with that being said, what is my verdict?


Despite people hate this movie, I actually dig it

Felidae is a German animated thriller/horror film that came out in 1994 in the language of German. Based on the book of the same name by Akif Pirinçci that is part of a series. How I Watched:  Youtube   (Remember to click closed captioning)  English Dub  available if you don't want to read subs.  You know how you look back in your life and remember that one kids movie and still get taken aback how dark and scary it was? Oh, I doubt it was only one! A lot of kids movies especially from my time growing up in in the 90s there are PLENTY of dark themes to movies marketed to kids. I will say that Felidae is NOT a kids movie and I would be hella shocked if it ever was one due to the nature of it.  I did catch this movie on Youtube as linked above and reading through the comment section apparently a lot of people watched this as CHILDREN!
