How I watched: Peacock Premium
For the short of it: Aunt takes in her niece after a fatal1, car accident and gifts her a companion robot that wants to be her BFF. FOR. EV. ER.
The long of it? Well...
A young girl named Cady (pronounced like "Katie"...these motherfuckers watched too much Mean Girls) gets into a car accident with her parents and is the only survivor. Real tragic, huh? They were caught in a snow blizzard and got hit by a snow plow. Cady's aunt, Gemma, is given custody of her as the next of kin.
Gemma also just so happens to be part of a team that develops high tech kids toys. While her team was supposed to be working on a different prototype to combat a rival company, Gemma is being a sneaky ass and and uses the company resources to develop a companion humanoid robot for kids. They're at the early-mid stages of it and da boss finds out about it and blows his lid over it. Tells them to scrap it and just do what they were originally supposed to do.
How mighty convenient that Gemma has custody of her traumatized niece at the same time she's trying to get this robot thing to work huh?
But hey, plot points...
Cady has a rough time adjusting which is just the motivation Gemma needs to get this shit to work. So after a little bonding between them two, cue the mandatory montage of her being all productive and shit. After an unspecified time has passed, it is ready to be unveiled and she is officially introduced to M3GAN.
At first everything is all hip as fuck. Cady is opening up more to the approval of not only of her aunt but Cady's therapist as well whom was initially skeptical in Gemma's maternal instinct. But what comes up must go down, right?
Gemma starts to notice that Cady is developing an unhealthy emotional attachment to M3GAN and it's totally affecting the blossoming dynamic. Not to mention there's wack ass glitches too which to her horror is noticing that M3GAN is a wee bit out of programming. So, what is up with that, man?
I'm honestly not really a fan of modern horror movies due to a lot of what is considered the new age norm in movies. Anything from the acting, stereotypes and lack of genuity but M3GAN is a real breath of fresh air. Not a new concept whatsoever but it does bring a great vibe to it to fit this current age.
So Peacock Premium has both the regular theatrical version of this movie and the Unrated version. As per usual I'd want to see the Unrated version and there's not much difference, it's literally only 6 seconds longer. You can read up on the exact differences in this article but the TL:DR of it is more cursing (including M3GAN) and bloodier scenes. Specifically the bully in the woods scene.
A SEQUEL HAS BEEN CONFIRMED! COMING IN 2025!
So with that being said, what is my verdict?
Lit as fuck
