Baskin (2007)

Baskin is a Turkish surrealist horror movie that came out in 2007 in the language of Turkish. Based off a short film.  Not a bad idea to watch it first. 2 of the actors reprise their role for the full length movie, too! Optional but highly recommended.

How I Watched: Tubi

For the short of it: Responding to a plea for help, a group of officers enter the realm of nightmares.

The long of it? Well... 

So there are these police officers that have a jolly good time at a local restaurant where they are just, what the hip kids call it these days, shooting the shit. Just drinking and having very NSFW conversations if you know what I mean. This scene pretty much goes on longer than it should have but carry on.

One of the officers ends up getting mindfucked because he saw something spooky in the restroom but he soldiers on. Just creepy foreshadowing is all.

Back in the road, they receive a distress call for backup in the town of Inceagac. The mindfucked police officer who is now driving tells them how he has heard some strange stories as a kid but police bros kind of brush him off because S*H*R*I*N*E*S are there. How can a place be wack if there are mucho shrines, eh?

However the trek has come to a halt when some figure darts in front of the vehicle, causing them to stop and investigate. OMG the see frogs in which they want to GTFO now and figure that the darting man was just a stupid prank from someone.

They all get to the town but heebie jeebies are already a-brewin'. Things are taken a downhill trajectory and I'm not just talking about their van that is ass up in the nearby creek. They chat with the town's residents whom give them an ominous warning, as one does in a horror movie.

Police arrive at this building where the distress from earlier was received. This is where shit hits the fan. Unaware of what they are about to walk into is an unapologetic fury of hell.

This movie absolutely unnerved me to the core. As implied in your basic movie description you can find practically everywhere you search up this movie, this movie is about these men's descent into the bowels of hell itself. So much graphic imagery, unholy acts, body mutilations just everything under the sun. It's absolutely wretched.

I must admit, it took me many tries to watch this film. Can't tell ya why because I don't know either it just never seemed to land with me on my first attempts. I ended up breaking my own personal rule and look up reviews online. Not exactly spoilers but just reactions that MANY people seemed to have a deep reverence for. So I sucked it up and finished the dang movie today.

Probably too vulgar for my liking but it absolutely got the point of the grotesqueness of hell across pretty dang well. Well written script and execution. For lack of better words. 

That ending was straight up balls, man. That's the kind of ending that's going to keep me up at night. 

With that being said, what is my verdict?

Felidae is a German animated thriller/horror film that came out in 1994 in the language of German. Based on the book of the same name by Akif Pirinçci that is part of a series. How I Watched:  Youtube   (Remember to click closed captioning)  English Dub  available if you don't want to read subs.  You know how you look back in your life and remember that one kids movie and still get taken aback how dark and scary it was? Oh, I doubt it was only one! A lot of kids movies especially from my time growing up in in the 90s there are PLENTY of dark themes to movies marketed to kids. I will say that Felidae is NOT a kids movie and I would be hella shocked if it ever was one due to the nature of it.  I did catch this movie on Youtube as linked above and reading through the comment section apparently a lot of people watched this as CHILDREN!
