Wither (2012)

Wither is a Swedish horror movie that came out in 2010 in the language of swedish.

How I watched: Tubi

Today is a movie that adds on to yet another vacation gone awry. If you're not burned out of those type of movies then by all means, hang tight for the ride.

Here we meet a 20 something couple oh so madly in love. Barf. They are wanting to go on a little getaway trip with some friends and the girl (?) parents suggest for them to go fuck off to their cabin in the woods that's abandoned for some reason. Did they literally just think of that cabin?? Why would they keep this knowledge to their damn selves the entirety of the girl's existence and just randomly bring it up when she's all adult and shit? But hey, plot points.

They immediately round up their moderately big group of friends that for some reason has gender segregation between those 2 cars and away they go! Not before Ida cautions her blond gal pal to stay away from her brother, Simon, whom has a reputation for being a lil man whore. She apparently doesn't give a shit to give Tove the memo because like immediately when they get to the cabin they both are already knocking boots.

So one of the bros, Marcus, then tries to prank everyone else by telling Marie to sneak in through a window through the back and scare the shit out of the rest of the group. She reluctantly agrees and away she goes in this possibly asbestos ridden cabin. She makes her way into the basement and comes across some demonic entity....

So hours later everyone is just chilling and partying in the cabin too drunk off their asses to notice Marie doing her best personification of Eeyore not making eye contact and looking on the ground and all. She excuses herself to the restroom and holy shit she's peeing blooooood. Eew!

Beginning of the end...

Marie is now this weird cross between zombie and blood thirsty vampire. I am pretty sure this movie is mainly focusing on being a zombie.

And for some reason there is this random other old dude that was mean dogging the party group when they first got there that miraculously knew down to the minute that shit was popping so he knocks on the door and forces his way to help them. Yo, but it's too late Marie is already attacking everyone. Nooooooo.

Random old dude then proceeds to tell them they are dealing with a demonic entity called Vaettr that has the ability to steal one's soul and turn them into the undead once you make eye contact. They're all asking how he knows that. "Oh, it was in the intro to this movie. Lolz."

So yeah the rest of this movie is trying to survive the night and try to not die.

Ugh, so where do I begin with this movie? It's a hot mess. Right off the bat it seems lime a terrible rip off of the Evil Dead series. I know sometimes it can be hard for me to tell the quality acting in foreign movies but this was particularly was blatantly bad. Like, oh my god it was terrible.

The special effects, blood spatter, dismemberments. Just no.

There was this one scene where the actor that was being buried (and supposed to be dead) but she kept flinching (as in multiple times) when the dirt was being piled on her. It was so cringe. No, I did not like this movie and I totally am not interested in watching this monstrosity ever again. The only good thing I have to say about this is I do like how they did Vaettr. It actually looked pretty scary. Maybe they used all the budget on that and did fuck all for rest. Idk.

Not the worst horror movie but it's definitely a top 20 worst for me personally. If you want a disposable horror movie to laugh at unironically, then give this movie a go. Other than that, steer clear.

Needless to sat, what is the verdict?

Blegh but an endearing blegh.
