How I watched: Netflix
Since this is a movie on Netflix, I will talk about spoilers so avoid the signs if thou doesn't want to be spoilt. I repeat: Not a review, more of a recap.
I came across this movie as a Last Chance. I actually remember adding this to my To Watch list but I just never got around to it. Apparently, Netflix sends you emails when movies on your queue when they are on their way out. Enough of my procrastinating, might as well give this movie a watch before it gets yeeted and then who knows where it would be available next, if at all. Wish I would have wrote posts on past Netflix series for example Killer Girl K. I did watch this mini series and enjoyed it but after it got taken off Netflix, I haven't been able to find it streaming anywhere since since this came out the same year as this movie. Found the first episode on Youtube so that's consolation.
I digress, let's get into the movie!
This movie is inspired by a real event, please read after the post for more info. It's sad.
Ragini MMS is a found footage horror movie about a lovely couple, Ragini and Uday that go off for a romantic getaway for this random house in the middle of nowhere. You can definitely get a feel for Uday's character from the get go. Of course, as it is the beginning of the movie we can easily mistaken this as a lovestruck fool who can't wait to sweep her off her feet for the journey ahead of them.
Uday shows up at the ass crack of dawn to fetch Ragini, much to the annoyance of her roommate, Pia, who keeps telling him to GTFO. He dismisses her and the clear boundaries and just barges himself inside the apartment like a SWAT police officer coming in for the kill. Aggressively wakes up the sleeping beauty. Perhaps she is too lovestruck as well to know that this guy is clearly a POS but HEY they're in LOOOOOVE.
Not sure why the motherfucker was filming that part with his phone but whatever.
Off they go and have a fun filled couple of hours mucking about around time and partying everywhere blah blah blah. It's a classic montage of the calm before the storm.
So they eventually make their way to the house in the middle of woods but it's hella dark by the time they get there. Uday's intent is immediatly unveiled as he is shown talking to someone on the phone. Something about getting ready to make some money by filming their sexy escapades in private. Yeah, so he's a fucking sleezeball.
Thinking he primed Ragini enough, they get to foreplay but it's just as quickly thwarted when Pia and her boyfriend, Vishal, crash the party. Uday wants her to tell him to skedaddle but obviously they don't and they party for a while. Happy camper here.
So we finally get to the spooky stuff where they haven't even been there long before Vishal gets attacked by some unknown entity and starts bleeding his own blood. NOT HIS OWN BLOOD! He freaks the fuck out like a little girl so him and Pia yeet themselves out of the house much to Uday's content.
The love birds make their way to the bedroom and start to get a little freaky. He cuffs her with these cute pink fluffy handcuffs to the bedpost and they start making out. Now shit is start to REALLY go down.
Paranormal shit is becoming such a boner kill to Uday so this little asshole go investigates it but gets attacked. He's all bloody and stuff but goes back to the room with Ragini where she figures out that there is several hidden cameras around the house so she's talking shit to him. Which totally sucks because now she is still cuffed to the bed and definitely no way in hell now that he is going to free her. So I think he becomes possessed or something because he acts so morbid and his mannerisms is out of place. He does the unthinkable and kills himself by stabbing his neck.
What a bummer, huh? She's handcuffed to the bed and the only person with the key is dead ass across the room and on top of that, they are in the middle of BUMFUCK NOWHERE!
This part does get pretty depressing as we see her in such a struggle to stay sane and having multiple attempts to free herself for like 2 days with a rotting body next to her. Ugh. Then this vengeful spirit starts messing with her!! Noooo!
There's a few more things that happen and yeah it does get a bit gruesome but overall, this movie in particular is nothing to write home about. Basic ass formula for a horror movie taking place in the middle of the woods with paranormal activity. That's what critics praised this as, actually. "The Indian Paranormal Activity". I remember seeing the original Paranormal Activity in theatres and it was...alright despite everyone saying they loved it. But yeah Ragnini MMS is definitely a Dollar Tree version of PA.
I really wasn't impressed.
There is a sequel to this movie and I am honestly debating if I should even bother. Statistically, sequels are much worse than their predecessor and I obviously wasn't amused with this one. If I do, I'll update this post but don't hold your breath.

I have learned that this movie in particular is inspired by the real events of a woman named Deepika that has come out and said this movie is about her experiences. She has since expressed regret for publicly revealing her identity because of the sexual content of the movie, people are harassing her thinking that's what exactly she did. She was 19 years old at the time of the incident but the basis of her encounter was that she went into a house with her boyfriend in the outskirts of Delhi that she got "bad vibes" from the house. That's it. Girl should feel no shame in her sexuality but I do understand why she's offended because surely people can be so judgmental of what they are guilty of doing themselves. She claims that people come knocking at her door and keep accosting her in public. That absolutely must have taken a toll on her mental health. I do sincerely hope she can heal and move on from his terrible ordeal.
