How I watched: Tubi
Hey there fellow reader, are you pregnant? Are you sensitive to movies mixed with horror and pregnant women? If the answer is yes then stay the hell away from this movie. If you are in any way squeamish in general of gore and maiming, then, uh this movie is definitely not for you. I also would not recommend reading further. In fact, if anyone even says INSIDE as a suggestion for movie night, then cut connections off with that person for da rest of your life. Mother be damned.
Also I must stress to you that this is the FRENCH movie. There is a completely unrelated movie from the USA also called Inside with Willem Dafoe. Different movie and not nearly as gnarly.
Yeah, this is a crazy one I have ya today. This has also been a recurring title I would come across when looking up threads on what's the most fucked up kind of movie. For the short of it: Inside is about a woman who stalks a pregnant woman who is seeking to take her baby. That's literally all you need to know. The long of it? Well...
The unfortunate beginning of this movie is a young couple, Matthieu and Sarah are involved in a fatal car accident. Sarah is the only one of the two that survived. And she's heavily pregnant.
Stating the obvious but you never see not one smile from dear 'ol Sarah. She's dealing with the sudden loss of her husband and she still has to go on with her pregnancy. At her current doctor's appointment, just a few months after the accident, the doctor schedules induced labor the next day. She's jumping for joy.
For some unknown reason (or at me at least) she has a very strained relationship with her mother. Could be due to stress or they're just not that close anymore but there is a definite disconnect affection towards her mother. She turns down her mother's offer to stay the night with her combined with the fact that she asked her colleague, Jean-Pierre to take her to the hospital tomorrow.
As soon as she gets home, she is ready to just chill and go to bed when suddenly DING DONG!
Someone is at the door asking to borrow her phone. She gives the same standoffish vibe as she did her mother just shortly before and says nah she don't want to help. Ain't nobody got time fo dat!
Until, this faceless stranger is like "I know your husband isn't home. 'Cause he's dead...SARAH!"
So she's like "WTF! How do you know my name, woman!?"
Few more words get minced which startles the fuck out of Sarah. She even manages to name a picture of the intruder when she was at the window. Startled, she calls the police and reports the stalking. Police are like...yeah ok lady but we'll still keep on eye out.
Sarah telephones Jean-Pierre and then heads to sleep. This is when shit goes from 0 to 100 really fucking fast. So this stalker lady finds a way into the house and tries to gut her but of course she wakes up from her sleep and is able to get off from under her clutches and runs to the bathroom for cover.
I also forgot to mention, what makes this movie even moreso depressing that really tugs at your heartstrings is intermittently, there are some CGI rendering closeups of the baby in the womb and the various reactions to the huh's and wtf's over the course of the night. I really wish they wouldn't have this in the movie but I totally get it. It really adds a new layer to this movie when it comes to how helpless one can be. This combined with the movie's soundtrack makes it a million times more eerie. Absolutely reminiscent to when I watched Angst many months back on this very blog. It really captures that desperation and hopelessness.
Over the course of this night, you are led to believe that just because you have many eyes watching over you with your own safety in mind that you would be totally saved, right? WRONG, MOTHERFUCKER! This movie really captures the daunting wish for that bright light at the end of the tunnel that you always seem to fall just short of.
What an extremely brutal movie. It has more shock value that totally rivals Martyrs and Atroz. On a gore scale, it's not the highest but it's absolutely not for the faint hearted. I absolutely would not recommend watching this movie if you have any kind of overwhelming sorrow or sadness looming over your shoulder if you know what I meann . ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE OVER PREGNANT WOMEN oh jeez what the fuck was I thinking watching this movie for this blog?!
Crazy movie. Hella graphic. Almost neverending gore from the moment shit hits the fan. If you have a soul somewhere, then please maybe not consider this movie. I would not want to watch this movie for any entertainment value. Just straight up demeaning and depressing.
There's actually been many true crime cases that echo this movie. Not saying the movie inspired them but maybe the other way around. I've seen a lot of true crime videos on Youtube and a small handful of them were able taking a baby away from a pregnant woman. I don't consume true crime content as much as I used to because that kind of shit really gets to me. I feel an absurd amount of sympathy pains of what the victims must have gone through. I'm getting carried away now but you get the point.
Not for the faint hearted. That's all you need to know. Not a movie I would want to watch again but it is well executed.
That being said, what is my verdict?
Has all the horror elements for sure, even if it ain't for me
