Dumplings (2004)
Dumplings is a Hong Kong horror movie that came out in 2004.
This was originally part of the Three...Extremes anthology movie and had I known about this sooner, I definitely would have forgone this Dumplings until I tracked it first. But I've gone too far! I already watched this movie ðŸ˜
🚨l 🚧📢 GRAPHIC SPOILER ALERT AHEAD 🚧📢🚨
Dumplings is about a former actress, Mrs. Li who wants to restore her once youthful looks in which she finds comfort in Mei. Mei's a former doctor turned cook who swears up and down she can restore Mrs. Li's beauty with her dumplings with a special... ingredient.
The special ingredient is aborted fetuses. Yeah. I don't think it's a good idea for me to post a movie screenshot of the more graphic (yet fake) depictions but it's DISGUSTANG!
Mrs. Li wasn't aware of this at first and while shocked and appalled at her discovery, it obviously wasn't enough for her to stop munching on those aborted fetuses. All in her unrelentless quest for beauty.
I think the more disturbing aspect of this is how nonchalant Mei is I mean, she literally treats it as it's another spice on the rack. Afterall, she was previously a doctor that actually did perform abortions in which the movie did show her perform one on a young girl. It was bizarre as hell especially when that bloodied fetus plops out of her into a tub of water!!! Ughhhhhhhh. The depictions could really be up to you how gross it is or not because at some scenes it literally looks like a slimey gummy bear but others where you can see a more human looking fetus unsettles my spirit that I need some serious eye bleach. This is probably the most tamest looking here:
This movie is kind of a slow burn for me but once I hung on, it was like a wild ride I couldn't get off of if I tried. The maniacal Mei and her cold demeanor towards life and stuff like whoa. The whole storyline almost feels like a descent into madness. Herein highlights the WTF's through the eccentric Mei from her singing to Mrs. Li. Humorous fluff I guess?? Well I like it! I wish there was more comic relief to this dreary movie. Once again, this movie is not for the faint hearted. It's not for the faint hearted. I mean that utterly so.
If this movie had a message, what would it be? Embrace natural aging. My goodness.
Disclaimers for this movie. Yeah like everything under the sun lol. Trigger warning for the close ups of the bloody fetuses, some were even further along pregnancy than others. 1 gross scene of an baby chick being stomped on. Gratuitous sex scenes.
Age demographics. Mature grown ass adults. Teenagers would be fucked up if they saw this. Parents: watch what your children may be exposed to! I saw this movie through the free Tubi app. I hate the internet sometimes how something so grotesque is easily accessible especially in this day and age. Talking as a mother of a teenager.
That being said, what is the verdict?
Kind of too much for me. But it is definitely an absurdly disasterpiece of a horror movie
