Bhoot Part 1: The Haunted Ship (2020)

Bhoot Part 1: The Haunted Ship is an Indian psychological supernatural horror movie that came out in 2020.

TL;DR This movie is about a big ass ship that washes ashore and upon investigating the why's and what's of it all Prithvi has to face the demons of his past and of others.

Not to be confused with another Indian horror movie of the same title but actually came out first in 2003. I already find that weird. I mean that definitely explains the officially longer movie title but why not just name it something else??

Anyway, this movie starts off with an extremely huge ship that washes ashore. Almost immediately there's first casualties as a young couple take a ride on the wild side jump the boat but they ded.

Don't worry guys, Prithvi is in the case!!

I did like the beginning intro of the movie because it basically took notes from that YOU KNOW WHAT notable scene from Up! (the everyone claims to cry like a baby over) and gave us some insight to our protagonist of the film. This is probably the biggest compliment I can say about the movie:l  It was beautifully done. We are shown how Prithvi and his wife met in such a cute fashion and their little whirlwind romance progressing while serenading us is a sweet breathtaking song called Channa Ve. However it comes to a grisly halt where it was previously shown him having quality family bonding time fast forwarding to the present where he is sitting solitary and depressed. Despite it being reminiscent of Up! this was quite possibly the best way to set the tone for Bhoot. Which entices us to ask...what the devil happened here?!

Unfortunately the movie goes downhill from here. Not by much, mind you but it set the bar so high I couldn't help myself but feel a little let down towards the end. Still a nice movie though.

So this dude investigates wassagoingon and immediately sees that some paranormal crap is affiliation with the ship and has convinced himself he HAS to solve this mystery terror despite getting little to no encouragement from those around him. In the meantime, he is plagued by the incident that took the lives of his wife and daughter. He suffers from a lot of guilt and you see he often uses that to make some rather risky decisions to deal with his trauma to do what he can for others that he wished would have successfully done for his loved ones.

I really do like this movie because of the sentiment behind it but in retrospect there's just so much that doesn't make sense about the plot progression of this movie for me. It almost feels like they are overcompensating and banking on the jump scares rather than getting into actual depth on unsettling events surrounding this film.

It's definitely a psychological horror film as you see how mentally tortured he is throughout the film but I can't help but feel there's some minor plot holes and unexplained occurances. They just slapped on the rest of the climax details of the film and left certain things a little empty. Maybe that's just me. Or maybe I am just kinda pissed the fuck off at Amazon Prime for fucking up the subtitles right when it got to the juicy stuff!!! Whoever is in charge of the subtitles should be fired lol. Around 30 minutes before the film ending the subtitles got out of sync with the movie and it was anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes AHEAD of what was showing. I tried restarting the app a few times but nah, it's definitely an Amazon Prime problem. Technically, I got movie spoilers from watching the same ass movie. Feels bad man.

Ending was too neatly wrapped. At least the title and the end credits scene sets us up for Bhoot 2...OR DOES IT?!?

As of this writing, there is no #2 in development at least not from what 'ol Google tells me. Time will tell though. Still an okay movie but I was still expecting Tumbbad levels of greatness but Bhoot falls short of it, sorry bros.

If this message had a message, what would it be? Everybody sucks at something (idk I'll edit this when I figure something better!)

Age demographics? Good at any age

No disclaimers.

So what is the verdict here?

Watchable for horror noobies
