Atroz (2015)

Atroz is Mexican horror movie that came out in 2015.

TL;DR This movie is about two men who are apprehended after a traffic accident and police unearth a camcorder which documented their extremely grotesque murders.

The extent of all it will be listed in the disclaimers at the end of this post if you want to skip my dramatic word vomit of a novella.

Atrocious. That's the English translation of Atroz. Even then that doesn't begin to describe this emotional rollercoaster of a movie. You know, I'll often scour the internet for my next idea on what to watch for my next movie viewing which led me to stumble upon Atroz through Reddit but specifically r/DisturbingFilms. I am shook to the motherfucking core. I have to absolutely be extremely selective in what screenshots to post because this film is definitely beyond grotesque with graphic depictions of the most mortifying murders and assaults. This past year has honestly been my reintroduction to horror movies as I was not that much of a movie person within these past 10 years. I'm a pretty sensitive person so I thought creating this blog would help me desensitize a bit and not be such a scaredy cat. Boy oh boy what a terrible day to have eyes. I'm 34 years old and here I am reeling from the aftermath.

Two men get apprehended by police after a drunk driving incident leaving a woman dead. Detective Juarez searches their car and finds a camcorder. We're barely 10 minutes into Atroz and it immediately gets to the first of many disturbing scenes of the torture and murder of the first victim of this movie. The thing about police over here, they are corrupt (shocker, I know) so they use torture methods of their own on both of the men to confess where they hid the body.  They ended up searching their house and find ANOTHER tape of a murder.

This movie toggles around found footage and present day with the detective Juarez interrogating Goyo, who is the primary around these murders with the other man who plays a smaller role in the killings (but still evil nonetheless). We even tap into Goyo's childhood and how the fuck it shaped him to the murderous psychopath he is today.

Teenaged Goyo just before the most gut wrenching scene my wretched eyes have ever laid upon

I'm telling you guys. You have to have a strong stomach to even begin to tolerate Atroz. I had to watch this movie in sections and get some eye bleach before continuing.

One thing is that at least you'll get some kind of relief when it comes to the ending I'll just leave it at that.

One cool piece of trivia I found out while doing light researching of this movie: Lex Ortega, who plays Goyo, actually wrote and directed this movie. But that's not the trivia lol He submitted T is for Tamales as part of a competition for ABC's of Death. Can't find the playable clip but it is on the official website back when the voting was open. I definitely remember ABC's of Death. Watched all the movies and absolutely on my queue to post on my blog as well so be on the lookout for that 👌

Here's another fun fact: I think Lex Ortega was my Lyft driver a few years back. Same first name on the app. Same body build. Admittedly, I was escaping an abusive situation and him being my Lyft driver was kind of an asshole about it. Maybe wrong guy idk but I for a fact his name was Lex on the app 🫠

If this movie had a message what would it be? Soulfly sung it best: Eye for an eye.

Disclaimers. Might be a shorter list to say what isn't on here. There's depictions including but not limited to: rape, sodomy, genital mutilation, scalping, incest, severe homophobia, petticoating, necrophilia, blood fetish (menstruation), fecal matter in places where they shouldn't be oh and gore. Plenty of gore.

Age demographics? A lot of grown ass adults wouldn't touch this movie with a 10 foot pole.

Yeah I am not going to rate this movie today. But it's as extreme as it's gonna get.
