Dolls (1987)

I came across this movie on the Comet channel if you're wondering about the watermark. I may have faint memories watching this as a kid. Idk really just dolls in general I've seen plenty of horror movies with it. Always had a tinge of fear but never fully traumatized though. Light spoilers ahead.



Dolls is about groups of strangers having to take refuge in a stereotypical creepy looking house on a cold and rainy night with murderous dolls. That's it. Small subplots in between. For example there is a family of 3 but the husband and stepmother are neglectful and apathetic basically don't give a crap about the adorable daughter. Another a pair of females who conspire to rob the house and a single man who is really an average Joe. His name is Ralph. They eventually find out this house isn't exactly the ideal safety net they thought it was. 

This is NOT the guy from Stranger Things! I checked.

As adult watching this again, you seem to appreciate to effects of B horror movies. Some will stand the test of time and others just age like milk. Where this movie stands is up to you. This moving is nothing special but does every horror movie HAVE to be? I don't know about you but the special effects of the dolls despite being pretty simplistic and play on your potential preconceived fear of dolls is still rather impressive to get those cheap spooks.

Even though this movie isn't on the Friday the 13th tier level of horror films to most people, I'd definitely recommend this movie to watch on Halloween or scary movie nights. Yes, it's pretty gory and a little graphic at times. Eye ball gore more than I'd thought. This is definitely for someone who doesn't take horror too seriously more like a laugh. If you're looking for a campy 80s film, this is the perfect candidate! 

 This does seem to implement stop motion when showing the dolls' movements which totally ups the creep factor for me. In one of the scenes it shows one of the dolls have a hyper realistic eyes!!! OMG. 

My favorite part is at the end of the movie old man rivers reads this going away note to the little girl that her father fucked off. Yeah, to HELL. Ralph is like bruh what?! He asks to see the note but the old man just yeets it in the fireplace. 

This movie is NOT kid approved unless you want to scar them for life. Even if you do, how about not?

If this movie were to come across any message in this film it would probably be: Toys are loyal.

Felidae is a German animated thriller/horror film that came out in 1994 in the language of German. Based on the book of the same name by Akif Pirinçci that is part of a series. How I Watched:  Youtube   (Remember to click closed captioning)  English Dub  available if you don't want to read subs.  You know how you look back in your life and remember that one kids movie and still get taken aback how dark and scary it was? Oh, I doubt it was only one! A lot of kids movies especially from my time growing up in in the 90s there are PLENTY of dark themes to movies marketed to kids.
