The Platform (2019)

The Platform is a Spanish dystopian thriller that came out in 2019. Goreng wakes up in a cell with another much older man. He very quickly learns this prison has a grisly twist.

Goreng discovers that the hole in the center of his cell is vertically interconnected with literally hundreds of other cells exactly like his. Once a month there is a platform of a vast amount of food which only stops for a limited time. When time's up, it descends into the next level where the lower level cell mates eat what is left over until it gets all the way down. Basically, the higher on the platform you are, the plentiful of food you have but the lower you are...may God be with you. One can only wish that when your month is up and get transferred to a randomized room that you would be blessed to have a better cell than before.

I believe this movie highlights the disturbing blatant disinterest in altruism when faced with self preservation. It's fascinating yet terrifying the varying degrees of depravity. Would you be willing to work together or will greed and self interest be our downfall?

Not gonna lie but this will live rent free in my head for the years to come

It's an interesting movie to say the least. It's basically a metaphor for society. Nothing we haven't seen before but it's executed in a different package. It's currently available on Netflix with subtitles however an English dub is also available. I am never one to gatekeep which is better for your movie experience. I have watched both versions and it flows perfectly fine for me.

Not preteen approved as there is some nudity and sexual situations. Poop alert as well. Not going to tell you when, that's on you if you decide to watch this movie.

If this movie had a message what would it be? Share, motherfucker!

Verdict? Thought provoking movie to some degree but nothing special about it. Not terrible though as it's still a watchable movie.
